Macy Brinson, a physical education teacher at Kingswood Magnet Elementary, has been named the 2025 Wake County Public School System Teacher of the Year. Known affectionately as "Coach B," Brinson has dedicated six years to education, with four of those at Kingswood. Her passion and creativity shine through her teaching, as she fosters personal connections with her students. Brinson leads a running club and organizes events like the school's Walk to School Day and the Kids Heart Challenge, showcasing her commitment to community engagement.
Kingswood Principal Sherry Sleeser praised Brinson for her ability to create a family-like atmosphere in the classroom, emphasizing her dedication to all students, including those with special needs. Brinson's efforts extend to organizing a Special Olympics event at her school, highlighting her inclusive approach to education. As Teacher of the Year, she will participate in the Go Global NC study program in Botswana and Zambia in 2026 and attend the Global Leaders Teacher Fellowship Conference.

Buckhorn Creek Elementary School achieved the full EL Education School credential, a prestigious recognition for exceptional student outcomes, further underscoring the district's commitment to educational excellence.
The meeting also highlighted May as Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month, encouraging schools to celebrate the contributions of this diverse community. Lastly, families are invited to participate in Letterland Days at Pullen Park, promoting literacy through engaging activities.
