A new educational campaign aimed at improving traffic safety in Murphy is set to launch, following a recent City Council meeting. The initiative, spearheaded by local leaders, focuses on raising awareness about traffic regulations, particularly concerning a problematic turn lane that has led to numerous complaints from residents.

During the meeting, officials discussed the significant increase in vehicular traffic and the need for better education to prevent accidents. "Luck does not equate to good tactics," one council member stated, emphasizing the urgency of the campaign. The plan includes a social media blitz starting tomorrow, with ongoing educational efforts over the next four to six weeks. Flyers and public service announcements will be distributed to inform both residents and visitors about the traffic rules.

The campaign will initially focus on education, with traffic stops conducted to issue warnings rather than citations. "Our intent is to educate, to save lives," a council member explained, highlighting the importance of transparency, especially for non-residents who frequent the area.

In addition to the educational efforts, new signage will be installed to clarify traffic regulations at key locations. A "no left turn" sign will be placed in the center median on Murphy, aimed at preventing confusion for drivers exiting the PSA area.
