The Marion County Board of County Commissioners meeting on May 6, 2025, highlighted two significant community initiatives aimed at enhancing local engagement and support.
The first topic discussed was the upcoming 2026 Stormwater Calendar Photo Contest. The theme for this year, "Wildflower Waters," invites residents to capture the beauty of Marion County's water bodies adorned with blooming wildflowers. Participants are encouraged to submit high-resolution photos that reflect this theme, ensuring that each image features a water body within the county. Submissions must include the photographer's name, contact information, a brief description of the photo, and its location. Entries can be submitted electronically through the county's website or as printed photos delivered to a specified address. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2025, by 5 PM.
In addition to the photo contest, the meeting also promoted the "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive, scheduled for this Saturday. This initiative, part of a nationwide effort since 1993, encourages residents to support local families in need by placing non-perishable food donations at their mailboxes for collection. The food drive benefits Interfaith Emergency Services, which works to provide food assistance to families in the community.
These initiatives reflect Marion County's commitment to fostering community involvement and addressing local needs through creative and supportive programs.
