Long Branch City Council celebrated a significant environmental achievement at its recent meeting, highlighting the city's commitment to sustainability and community engagement. Long Branch has earned the prestigious silver certification from Sustainable Jersey, placing it among only 28 certified silver communities out of 486 in New Jersey. This recognition underscores the city's leadership in environmental sustainability efforts.
The council honored the Long Branch Environmental Commission and the Green Team for their hard work and dedication. Notably, the city also received the Sustainable Jersey Collaboration Award for its restoration efforts at Jackson Woods, a project that has transformed the area into a beautiful 11-acre space for passive recreation.
During the meeting, council members praised the various initiatives undertaken by these organizations, including updating the environmental resource inventory, collaborating with local businesses on green initiatives, and enhancing city recycling projects. They also highlighted partnerships with the Well Promed Brook Watershed Association, which have led to the development of rain gardens and other environmental projects throughout the city.
Council President Vieira presented proclamations recognizing the Environmental Commission for securing grants aimed at improving biking and pedestrian access, as well as for assessing the city's tree inventory. The Green Team was acknowledged for its tireless efforts in promoting sustainability, which contributed to Long Branch's silver certification.
