Hays County's commitment to supporting local businesses was underscored during a recent meeting where Karina Boston Pinales of the Reparious Foundation presented an impactful update on the "How to Fund Your Business with Grants" workshop series. This initiative, part of the Ripple Project in collaboration with the Hays Caldwell Economic Development Partnership, aims to empower entrepreneurs and nonprofits in the region.
Boston Pinales highlighted the success of the program, which has seen a significant increase in participation. Last year, the foundation received additional funding, enabling them to expand their reach. The latest cohort attracted 73 initial sign-ups, with 53 participants completing the 12-week program, representing over 20 different ZIP codes across Hays County. Notably, 19% of attendees hailed from San Marcos, 11% from Buda, and nearly 10% from Kyle.
The workshop series has proven to be a valuable resource, helping participants secure a total of $883,676 in grants. One success story involved an attendee who transitioned from a sole proprietorship to an LLC after receiving a grant, illustrating the program's tangible impact on local businesses.
Commissioners expressed their gratitude for the foundation's efforts, emphasizing the importance of providing resources and support to small businesses, which are vital to the community's economy. The foundation plans to seek continued funding during the upcoming fiscal year budget process to sustain these essential services.
As the program continues to evolve, it remains focused on meeting the needs of Hays County's small business community, fostering growth and resilience in the local economy. The next steps include a luncheon in June to promote mental health awareness, further demonstrating the foundation's commitment to holistic community support.
