Residents of Greenwich can expect improved drainage solutions following a recent Planning & Zoning Commission meeting on March 25, 2025. The commission discussed a new drainage plan aimed at addressing longstanding flooding concerns in the area, particularly near Highland Farm Road.
During the meeting, community members raised questions about how water runoff from a proposed development would be managed, especially given the history of flooding in the vicinity. Concerns were specifically directed at a brook located at the edge of the property, which has been known to overflow during heavy rains.
In response, Mr. Brower, a representative for the development, outlined the proposed drainage system. He explained that the design would reuse existing infrastructure, including the house and driveway, while introducing a new drainage plan that complies with local regulations. This system will include catch basins and leaders that will connect to a new infiltration system designed to manage stormwater effectively.
The drainage plan is set to mitigate flooding by ensuring that all runoff is directed towards a wetland system and a brook on the eastern side of the property. Importantly, the development will respect the 100-foot upland review area for wetlands, allowing the project to proceed without the need for additional permits.
This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing water management in the area, aiming to alleviate flooding issues for local residents. As the project moves forward, the community can look forward to a more sustainable approach to stormwater management that prioritizes both development and environmental protection.
