On May 5, 2025, the Oregon State Legislature convened to discuss House Concurrent Resolution 30, which honors the Friends of Timberline for their five decades of dedicated service to the historic Timberline Lodge. This resolution highlights the significance of the lodge, an iconic structure built during the Great Depression and dedicated on September 28, 1937. Nestled at 6,000 feet on the south side of Mount Hood, Timberline Lodge is not only a popular destination for skiing and hiking but also a national historic landmark that attracts over two million visitors annually.

Senator Bonham, who spoke in support of the resolution, emphasized the lodge's architectural beauty, constructed from local materials, and its cultural impact, referencing its appearances in various films and artworks, including the famous movie "The Shining." The Friends of Timberline, a nonprofit organization, has played a crucial role in preserving the lodge's historic integrity through numerous renovation projects, including the restoration of its amphitheater and winter entrance.

The organization marked its 50th anniversary in March 2020, reflecting a long-standing commitment to the lodge and the surrounding community. Their efforts include fundraising events, such as an annual auction scheduled for October 6, and biannual Timberline Workdays in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service and local partners.

The meeting concluded with an invitation to the community to celebrate the Friends of Timberline's contributions at a special event on Thursday evening at the Tumwater Ballroom. This recognition not only honors the past but also reinforces the ongoing importance of community involvement in preserving Oregon's natural and historical treasures.
