Major Kirkpatrick highlighted the critical need for residents to heed evacuation orders, stating, “Plan, leave if you can, and then honestly, don’t come back until the day you’re told it’s safe.” He warned that returning too soon can lead to dangerous situations, including lack of power and fuel shortages. “People often come back thinking, ‘How bad could it be?’ only to find no services available,” he added.
