Springfield Township plans to vacate sections of Toledo Waseon Road and Clarion Avenue

The Lucas County Board of County Commissioners held a meeting on April 22, 2025, where they discussed the vacation of two old roadways in Springfield Township. The first location is the driveway for the Douglas Company and Hoenn's Greenhouse off Toledo Waseon Road. This road, described as very old, does not meet the current definitions of a county road. After offering it to the township, which declined the offer, the board is now considering vacating the road.

The second roadway under discussion is Clarion Avenue, which historically served as part of an interurban railroad line abandoned in the early 20th century. This road currently splits a property owner’s land, prompting the owner to request its vacation to consolidate their property. Both roadways are not actively used, and any existing electric lines will be converted to easements following the vacation process.

The board's decision to vacate these roads reflects ongoing efforts to manage and update local infrastructure in accordance with current needs and land use. The next steps will involve formalizing the vacation process for both Toledo Waseon Road and Clarion Avenue.
