Scottsburg Council advances residential TIF district for Maple Run subdivision

The Scottsburg City Council took significant steps towards enhancing local infrastructure and economic development during their recent meeting on May 1, 2025. A key decision was made to annex a water plant property into the city, which has been under county jurisdiction. This move, supported by a majority of property owners, aims to streamline water services and improve management efficiency.

In addition to the water plant annexation, the council discussed the establishment of a residential tax increment financing (TIF) district for the Maple Run subdivision. The council noted that there was no negative feedback from overlapping taxing districts, including the local school district and library, indicating broad support for the project.

The next steps involve a public hearing by the planning commission, which will assess the proposal and make recommendations to the council. Following this, further actions will be required to finalize the TIF district, including additional public hearings and resolutions.
