The Town Council of Ross has taken a significant step towards enhancing community engagement by approving a modernization project for the town council chambers. During the meeting held on January 9, 2025, the council authorized the town manager to replace outdated public seating and tables, a move aimed at increasing the utilization of the space for community meetings, workshops, and recreational programs.

The current seating, which dates back to the late 1920s, has been deemed underutilized, with the facility only hosting public meetings approximately three times a month. The fixed wooden seating, while historically significant, limits the flexibility needed for various community activities. The proposed upgrades include the installation of 40 stackable, ADA-compliant chairs and six modern training tables that can be easily stored when not in use. This change is expected to foster a more engaging environment for public meetings and recreational programs.

The total estimated cost for these improvements is $17,000, with $9,000 already secured through a grant aimed at promoting employee safety. The remaining $8,000 will be covered by the town's existing public works budget, ensuring no additional funding is required. The project is set to commence within the next couple of months, with staff coordinating the logistics to minimize disruption to scheduled meetings.

In addition to the seating and table upgrades, the council discussed restoring the hardwood floors of the chamber, further enhancing the aesthetic and functional quality of the space. The modernization project is seen as an interim measure, with plans for a more comprehensive Civic Center modernization project in the future.
