A new initiative aims to reduce fall-related incidents, which are the most common calls for service. The department has partnered with local senior centers to provide safety assessments and install necessary home modifications, such as grab bars and improved lighting.
Looking ahead, Fitzrona EMS is focusing on training and community outreach. The addition of a third chief officer will enhance training programs for staff, ensuring all personnel are well-prepared for emergencies. The department is also committed to public education, offering CPR and first aid classes at local libraries, which have seen strong attendance.
Chief Anderson discussed ongoing challenges with EMS reimbursement, particularly for non-transport calls, which often leave patients with unexpected costs. The department is advocating for legislative changes to improve reimbursement rates for services provided without transport, which could significantly enhance the financial sustainability of EMS operations.
As Fitzrona EMS continues to adapt and grow, the community can expect improved emergency response services and a stronger focus on preventive care, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the district.
