Waukesha Council approves $400K for Habitat for Humanity loan program

Waukesha's Redevelopment Authority has taken significant steps to enhance affordable housing in the community, approving a $400,000 loan to Habitat for Humanity during their recent meeting on April 28, 2025. This funding is aimed at supporting the construction of new homes, with the expectation that the loan will be repaid upon the sale or transfer of the properties to selected families.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to maintain a steady construction schedule, particularly as the weather improves and work on Dominican Park progresses. Officials anticipate that the park will be completed by December 2026, with ongoing construction visible throughout the area.

In addition to the loan to Habitat for Humanity, the authority also discussed a $50,000 grant request from Habitat for critical home repairs through their home preservation program. This grant will fund ten additional loans for homeowners in need, particularly those earning at or below 80% of the area median income. This program has been successful since its inception in 2021, leveraging city funds to maximize the impact of Habitat's resources.

The approval of these funds reflects a commitment to addressing housing needs in Waukesha, ensuring that financial support is available for both new construction and essential home repairs.
