The City Council of Rexburg gathered on February 19, 2025, to hear an exciting update from Silver Star regarding their broadband expansion project. Jason Jenkins, the newly appointed Vice President of Open Access, took the lead in presenting the progress made in 2024 and the ambitious plans for the upcoming build season.
Jenkins highlighted the significant strides made last year, with over 208,000 feet of mainline installed and more than 2,200 serviceable locations identified. As of January 1, 2025, over 520 homes are actively connected to the new broadband service, with nearly 1,400 additional residents expressing interest. The project aims to bridge the digital divide, providing residents with access to high-speed internet options.

Notably, one area achieved a remarkable 63% take rate, indicating a high demand for the improved service. Jenkins noted that the most popular subscription is the 1 gigabit symmetrical service, which has become the new standard for internet speed.
Looking ahead, Jenkins outlined plans for 2025, aiming to commence construction by May 1, weather permitting. The focus will be on areas east of the railroad tracks, with preliminary engineering already underway. Jenkins assured the council that they are working closely with city engineers to navigate any construction challenges.
The council expressed enthusiasm for the project, recognizing its potential to enhance connectivity and quality of life for Rexburg residents. As the broadband initiative progresses, the city anticipates further engagement with the community to ensure widespread access to reliable internet services.
