In a recent meeting of the Lubbock County Commissioners Court, discussions centered on the funding and logistics for the upcoming Fourth on Fifth events in the city of Wolfforth. The event, which has grown significantly over the years, is expected to attract around 11,000 attendees this July, up from 6,000 in 2023. This year, the event will be relocated to Peoples Bank Stadium to enhance safety and accessibility, moving away from traditional fireworks to a drone show due to safety concerns related to dry conditions.
Tara Tomlinson, the Director of Development Services for Wolfforth, presented the event's budget, which totals approximately $79,000. The funding will cover essential services such as safety and security, entertainment, and sanitation. The city is seeking $5,000 from Lubbock County to support these efforts, emphasizing the importance of safety measures and family-friendly activities.
The meeting also highlighted the economic impact of the event, with a reported 11% increase in sales tax revenue during the previous year’s festivities. This growth reflects the event's ability to draw visitors from surrounding areas, contributing positively to the local economy.
The Commissioners Court approved several items on the consent agenda, indicating a smooth progression of administrative matters. As the Fourth on Fifth event approaches, the collaboration between Wolfforth and Lubbock County aims to ensure a successful and safe celebration for the community.
