SCUSD highlights student achievements and upcoming events at board meeting

Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) is set to honor the Washington Open team at a statewide event in May, highlighting the district's commitment to recognizing student achievements. During the recent board meeting on April 10, 2025, district officials emphasized the importance of student voice, noting that SCUSD has prioritized student engagement through various committees and councils.

Superintendent Doctor Waddell praised students for their active participation in leadership roles, including contributions to the Environmental Literacy Committee and the LGBTQ+ Committee. He encouraged families of students in grades TK through 11 to complete an intent to return form by the following day, which is crucial for planning enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.

The meeting also featured a report from student board member Wren Brown, who shared updates from Santa Clara High School. Brown highlighted recent events such as successful food and blood drives, concerts, and a variety of club activities, including a spirited Battle of the Classes (BOTC) competition, which saw seniors emerge victorious for the second consecutive year. Looking ahead, she mentioned upcoming events like prom, themed "Great Gatsby," and senior activities leading up to graduation.

Union president Ms. Alpin welcomed new board member Doctor Wright and expressed her commitment to supporting the district's goals. The meeting concluded with a call for community unity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and civil discourse in addressing challenges within the district.

As SCUSD moves into the final months of the school year, the focus remains on fostering a supportive environment for students and families, ensuring that their voices are heard and valued in the decision-making process.
