Residents of Milton and surrounding areas gathered virtually on April 27 for the latest installment of the Wildlife 101 series, focusing on the fascinating world of beavers. Hosted by Jen Young from the City of Milton, the webinar aimed to educate participants about local wildlife and foster community engagement with nature.

Young opened the session by highlighting the importance of wildlife education, noting that many residents had expressed curiosity about the animals they encounter in their backyards, particularly beavers and coyotes. She emphasized the city’s commitment to preserving its natural spaces, which include over 13 parks, many of which remain untouched wilderness.

The event featured Ranger Jonah McDonald from DeKalb County, known for his storytelling and expertise in natural history. Young praised McDonald as a passionate naturalist and explorer, encouraging attendees to participate in his programs for a deeper understanding of local wildlife.

Participants were invited to ask questions throughout the presentation, with a focus on interactive learning. Young also announced the next webinar scheduled for May 13, which will cover amphibians, specifically frogs, led by Linda May from Georgia DNR.

The Wildlife 101 series not only serves as an educational platform but also aims to gather feedback from the community on future topics of interest, reinforcing the city’s dedication to fostering a connection between residents and their natural environment.
