Residents of Wasatch County can look forward to a more coordinated approach to transportation and community planning following the recent update on the Wasatch Choice Vision presented during the Transportation Coordinating Committee meeting on August 17, 2023. Ted Knowlton, who led the discussion, emphasized the importance of a shared vision to enhance quality of life amid Utah's rapid growth.

The Wasatch Choice Vision, which has been refreshed after a four-year planning cycle, aims to address the challenges posed by increasing population and urban development. The initiative focuses on four key strategies: improving transportation options, expanding housing availability, enhancing parks and public spaces, and developing walkable city centers. These strategies are designed to ensure that residents have diverse choices for transportation and living arrangements, while also promoting community engagement and recreational opportunities.

A new interactive website, launched alongside the updated vision, provides residents with access to the Wasatch Choice Map and detailed information about the regional transportation plan. This resource is intended to facilitate community involvement and inform residents about how local governments can work together to implement the vision effectively.

In addition to the Wasatch Choice Vision update, the committee discussed the development of a comprehensive safety action plan aimed at improving road safety across the region. Funded through the Safe Streets and Roads for All program, this initiative will enable local governments to apply for funding to implement safety improvements once the plan is finalized. A virtual kickoff meeting for this project is scheduled for August 22, 2023.

The committee also reminded attendees that the application period for the Transportation Investment Fund and the Transit Transportation Investment Fund is open until August 31, allowing local entities to seek funding for transportation projects.

As Wasatch County continues to grow, these initiatives reflect a proactive approach to planning that prioritizes community needs and sustainable development, ensuring that residents can enjoy a high quality of life now and in the future.
