Wasatch County's Transportation Coordinating Committee made significant strides in improving local infrastructure during their recent meeting on April 24, 2025. The committee approved funding recommendations for multiple transportation projects aimed at enhancing safety and mobility across the region.
One of the key projects discussed was an intersection improvement in North Ogden, where a four-way intersection at 2100 North and Fruitland Drive will be transformed into a roundabout. This change is expected to improve safety and reduce vehicle delays, with an estimated project cost of over $4.5 million. The committee recommended allocating $3 million from the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) program to support this initiative.
In addition, the committee reviewed several other projects, including a multi-use path construction in South Jordan and an intersection project in Sandy aimed at improving traffic flow and visibility. The South Jordan project has an estimated cost of $4.5 million, with a funding request of $3.9 million, while the Sandy project is estimated at $5.3 million, with a request for just over $5 million. The technical advisory committee recommended $1.2 million and $2.2 million, respectively, from the CMAQ program for these projects.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of funding strategies for projects that may not receive full requested amounts. Committee members discussed how these projects could leverage initial funding to seek additional resources from other funding sources, ensuring their progression.
Furthermore, the committee recommended two projects under the Carbon Reduction Program, totaling approximately $3.8 million, aimed at enhancing pedestrian and bicycle facilities in Weber County and Far West City.
In a unanimous vote, the committee approved the recommended projects to be included in the draft 2026 CMAQ Program and the 2027 Carbon Reduction Program, marking a significant step forward in addressing transportation needs in Wasatch County and surrounding areas. The committee's proactive approach underscores its commitment to improving community infrastructure and reducing environmental impact through enhanced transportation options.
