South and East High Schools celebrate state champions and national qualifiers in speech and debate

Recognition of Student Achievements Shines at LCSD1 School Board Meeting

The Laramie County School District 1 (LCSD1) School Board meeting on April 21, 2025, celebrated the remarkable achievements of students from South High School and East High School in various competitions.

South High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) team was in the spotlight as they recognized 16 students, with 10 qualifying for the national competition. Notably, Neil Hushbeck and Aden Cabrera excelled in digital video and network design, respectively, while Hushbeck also teamed up with Cabrera to win first place in website design. Their project involved creating a comprehensive website for an entertainment venue, showcasing their skills in digital media. Additionally, Lily Christofferson and Anna Rodefer produced a public service announcement on healthy workplace habits, earning them a spot at nationals. The meeting highlighted the dedication of the students and the support from the school board and district for extracurricular activities.

East High School's speech and debate team also received accolades, having won the state tournament for the third consecutive year. Head coach Marcus Feining praised the team's hard work and success, noting their dominance in both the state and district tournaments. Individual achievements were recognized, including Rosie Zubrat, who received the Student of the Year award at the Hole in the Wall District Tournament and is a candidate for national recognition. Multiple students were acknowledged as national qualifiers in various categories, showcasing the depth of talent within the team.

The meeting underscored the importance of supporting student initiatives and the positive impact of extracurricular programs on student development. As these students prepare for national competitions, their achievements serve as a testament to the dedication and talent present in Laramie County schools.
