The Lady Pickers powerlifting team secured their latest title at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association state competition on March 14, 2025. Senior Leah Alanis made headlines by setting a historic record in the 123-pound division with a 425-pound squat, tying the state bench press record at 250 pounds and achieving the highest total lift of 1,025 pounds.
Head coach John Sanchez praised the athletes for their hard work and commitment, emphasizing that their success is a reflection of their dedication to the sport and their community. The team’s accomplishments included individual accolades for several members, showcasing their collective talent and determination. Notable performances included Jaylen Fernandez earning third place in the 105-pound class and Olivia Morales achieving the best deadlift in the heavyweight division with a total of 990 pounds.
