The City of Newark is taking significant steps to support local businesses and enhance community engagement through upcoming events. During the recent City Council meeting, officials announced a financial resiliency workshop aimed at small business owners, scheduled for Monday, April 28, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Newark Library Community Meeting Room. This workshop, which builds on a successful previous session, will help participants better understand their financial statements and make informed decisions. The event is free and open to all Newark businesses, with translation services available in Spanish, Vietnamese, and Mandarin.
In addition to supporting local businesses, the city is also promoting environmental stewardship with a tree planting event on Saturday, May 3, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Mel Noon Sportsfield Park. This initiative, which follows the Arbor Day proclamation, will involve planting 15 to 20 trees, contributing to the beautification of the city and the numerous benefits that trees provide. Residents are encouraged to register at urbanforestfriends.org or simply show up at the park to participate.
Council members expressed their enthusiasm for these initiatives, highlighting the importance of community involvement. Council member Catanzio noted the success of previous tree planting efforts and encouraged residents to volunteer for tree care, while also acknowledging the Newark Middle School PTSA for their advocacy regarding tobacco use among students.
The meeting also featured appreciation for local organizations, such as Viola Blythe, which plays a vital role in supporting Newark's residents through food assistance programs. Council member Jorgens commended the recreation staff for organizing a successful family day at the park, emphasizing the city's commitment to fostering community spirit.
These events reflect Newark's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for its residents, promoting both economic resilience and environmental sustainability. As the city continues to engage with its community, residents are encouraged to participate in these initiatives that aim to strengthen local ties and improve the overall well-being of Newark.
