Westland Beach is making strides in its development, with the installation of railings on the pier underway despite supply chain delays. The Board of Supervisors received an update on the project, highlighting the ongoing dredging efforts, which are about one-third complete. The dredged material, consisting of high-quality sand, is being placed along the beach to enhance the area.
The project is currently in Phase 1, which is 81% complete. Key tasks include the ongoing installation of pier railings and channel dredging, with the expectation that channel markers will be installed towards the end of this phase. The completion of Phase 1 is anticipated by November 1, following a notice to proceed expected around May 5.
In addition to Westland Beach, updates were provided on several other parks. Taylor Creek Park is nearing the final stages of design, with a target for a pre-bid meeting in late September and a bid opening in October. Carter Cove Park is also progressing, with site design about 80% complete and a late 2025 bid targeted.
Chesapeake Veil Park is currently on hold pending confirmation from the Department of Conservation and Recreation regarding federal grant release. Meanwhile, the first phase of Bridal Veil Park is complete, although further development is stalled due to funding issues.
These updates reflect the county's commitment to enhancing recreational spaces, despite facing challenges such as supply chain disruptions and funding freezes. The Board of Supervisors remains focused on moving these projects forward, with significant developments expected in the coming months.
