The Grant County Commission convened on April 24, 2025, to address several key community issues, including traffic safety, infrastructure improvements, and support for local advocacy initiatives.
The meeting began with a discussion on traffic concerns in Silver Acres, where community members expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Grant County Sheriff's Office in addressing chronic speeding issues. Despite improvements, residents noted that speeding remains a problem. A proposal was introduced for a new road, Camino Serna, which would connect Fairway to Broken Arrow. This road, currently an unpaved path, is seen as a potential avenue for first responders and could alleviate traffic on the heavily used Lance Road. The proposal highlighted the need for additional access routes, particularly in light of past emergencies, such as the 2011 fires that complicated response efforts.
Following this, Chelsea Cooper, Executive Director of the Silver Regional Assault Support Services and Child Advocacy Center, addressed the commission. She reported on the success of a recent human trafficking conference held in collaboration with various local organizations and agencies. The event received positive feedback and underscored the importance of community partnerships in addressing issues of abuse and neglect. Cooper acknowledged the Grant County Sheriff's Office for their significant involvement and recognition at the conference, where they received awards for their contributions to community safety.
Cooper emphasized the critical role of law enforcement in supporting vulnerable children and highlighted the center's commitment to providing trauma-informed services. She noted the ongoing efforts to achieve national accreditation for the center, which would enhance their ability to serve children who have experienced trauma.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued collaboration among community members, law enforcement, and advocacy organizations to ensure the safety and well-being of Grant County residents. The commission plans to explore funding options for the proposed road improvements and further support initiatives aimed at protecting children in the community.
