School Board approves $154K for digital scoreboard at Jardine Stadium

The School Board of Georgia convened on April 24, 2025, to discuss several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the district's transportation and educational resources.

One of the primary agenda items was the proposal to purchase a new truck for the transportation department. This acquisition is part of a broader effort to improve student safety, as the board plans to surplus several old school buses that are no longer operational or safe for transporting students.

In addition to transportation needs, the board addressed school literacy initiatives. A supplemental funding of $1,000 per elementary school was awarded to support teachers leading these literacy programs, highlighting the district's commitment to improving educational outcomes.

The meeting also included a significant discussion about upgrading the scoreboard at Jardine Stadium. The board recommended purchasing a digital display from Flametco for $154,952.34. This new scoreboard is expected to enhance the viewing experience for athletic events and will also be utilized for community activities, such as movie nights and graduation ceremonies. The board noted that the athletic director from Norcross High School praised the benefits of a similar scoreboard, describing it as akin to watching a large television.

Funding for the scoreboard will come from a combination of sources, including $57,000 from insurance to replace a damaged board due to Hurricane Helene and approximately $23,000 from the Touchdown Club. The Board of Education will cover the remaining costs, estimated at around $74,000.

The board also discussed the warranty and maintenance aspects of the new scoreboard, confirming a 10-year warranty and insurance coverage under the district's policy, ensuring long-term protection for this investment.
