Middle School West Math Counts Team qualifies for state competition after regional victory

The Boyertown Area School Board meeting on April 22, 2024, celebrated the achievements of the Middle School West Math Counts Team, which recently excelled in regional and state competitions. The team won first place in the county competition, earning them a spot at the state level, where they finished eighteenth among 24 teams.

During the meeting, team members Brandon Rizzo, Daniel Kovacs, Brady James, and Anthony Murkovich, along with their coaches Christy Parish and Mallory Jacoby, were recognized for their hard work and dedication. The students shared insights into their competition experience, detailing the structure of the Math Counts events, which include sprint, target, team, and countdown rounds.

Brady James explained the competition format, highlighting the challenges of each round, including the use of calculators and the collaborative nature of the team round. Anthony Murkovich added that their team had a strong showing at the county level, with several members ranking in the top ten.

The students also engaged the board with a brief quiz, providing an interactive element to their presentation. This recognition not only showcased the students' mathematical skills but also emphasized the importance of teamwork and perseverance in academic competitions. The board expressed pride in the team's accomplishments and encouraged continued support for such extracurricular programs.
