The City Council of Indianapolis celebrated outstanding contributions to community safety and youth mentorship during the 57th Annual Fire, Police & Deputy Sheriff's Community Recognition Luncheon on April 24, 2025. Officer Jonas Coleman was honored as the 2024 Bridging the Gap Officer of the Year for his exceptional commitment to mentoring young people through the IndyPal program. Once a participant himself, Coleman has become a role model, demonstrating the profound impact of positive community engagement. His dedication extends beyond the field, as he actively supports youth in their academic pursuits and personal development, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement needed to succeed.

In addition to Coleman, Private Philip Johnson received the EMT of the Year award for his exemplary service as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. Johnson's compassionate care and commitment to continuous improvement have set a high standard within the department, showcasing his ability to handle diverse emergency situations effectively.

Lieutenant Steven Hall was recognized as the Criminal Division Deputy of the Year for his leadership in managing the violent offender registration office. Under his guidance, the program has successfully completed over 11,000 registration transactions, enhancing public safety through improved collaboration with various law enforcement agencies.
