The Brooksville City Council held a special meeting on April 21, 2025, focusing on the accomplishments of the Good Neighbor Trail Advisory Committee and the formation of the South Brooksville Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) steering committee.

The meeting began with a tribute to the Good Neighbor Trail Advisory Committee, which was established in February and has successfully connected the Good Neighbor Trail to the Withlacoochee Trail and developed a trailhead at Russell Street Park. After 25 years of dedicated service, the City Council officially sunsetted the committee in March, acknowledging the significant contributions of its members.

Several long-serving members were recognized for their commitment, including John Beatty, who served for over 20 years, and former mayor Pat Brayton, who joined the committee in February 2024. Other notable members included Michael Dolan, who organized the inaugural Brooksville Good Neighbor Trail bike ride in 2018, and founding members such as Eugene Kelly and Vincent Morris, who played crucial roles in the trail's development and maintenance.

Following the recognition of the Good Neighbor Trail Advisory Committee, the council shifted focus to the newly formed South Brooksville CRA steering committee. The members of this committee have been meeting for several months to lay the groundwork for a community development area in South Brooksville. The council expressed gratitude for their long-term vision and commitment to enhancing the community.

The meeting concluded with a sense of appreciation for the volunteers and committee members who have contributed to the city's development and community initiatives. The council looks forward to the continued progress of both the Good Neighbor Trail and the South Brooksville CRA.
