During the recent Wellington Village Council Workshop, significant progress was made regarding the implementation of new traffic safety measures, particularly the installation of license plate readers (LPR) at school zones. The council reviewed proposals from six companies to enhance traffic enforcement and improve safety for students.
The selection committee, comprised of members including Mr. Wagner and Ms. Coats, evaluated the proposals based on qualifications, methodology, and pricing. Gymnoptic North America emerged as the top choice, with a competitive bid of $49.98 for the village and $10.02 for their services, totaling $60. This was followed by Ultimate and a tie between Blue Line Solutions and Red Speed for third place.
A key aspect of the awarded contract is the installation of Flock Falcon license plate readers at all school locations, which will be provided at no additional cost. This technology aims to bolster speed enforcement and enhance safety measures around schools. Notably, the implementation will not initially include high schools, but plans are underway to establish a school zone at Wellington High School, with designs currently in progress.
The council anticipates that the school zone will be operational by the start of the 2025 school year, set for August 11, 2025. This timeline presents challenges, but the selected contractor has provided a schedule to meet the deadline. The project is expected to significantly improve traffic safety for students and the surrounding community, aligning with Wellington's ongoing commitment to public safety and infrastructure enhancement.
