Mike Steed highlights Arab American Heritage Month initiatives at CASE

The Oregon City School District (OCSD) Board Meeting on April 14, 2025, kicked off with a focus on community engagement and education, featuring a presentation on Arab American Heritage Month by Mike Stead, principal of Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences (CASE). Stead highlighted the district's initiatives to celebrate Arab American contributions, showcasing projects from Beaver Creek Elementary and Gardner Middle School, where students learned about notable Arab Americans through daily lessons and advisory slides.

At CASE, students participated in a project that spotlighted Arab American women's history, coinciding with Women's History Month. This initiative reflects the district's commitment to inclusivity and cultural awareness, fostering a deeper understanding of diverse histories among students.

Stead also provided an overview of CASE, a district-sponsored charter program that emphasizes career technical education. With around 65 middle school students, CASE offers hands-on learning experiences, such as welding, which have proven to be both engaging and educational. The program aligns with the district's core curriculum while providing robust elective opportunities.

Additionally, CASE students benefit from partnerships with Clackamas Community College, allowing them to earn college credits and even associate degrees alongside their high school diplomas. This dual enrollment program enhances educational pathways for students, preparing them for future academic and career success.

The meeting underscored the district's ongoing efforts to enrich student learning and promote community values through educational initiatives.
