Joe Garza announces community open house for Far's comprehensive development plan

Residents of Pharr are invited to participate in shaping the future of their city at a community open house scheduled for May 2025. Joe Garza, Assistant Director of Development Services, announced the event during the Keep Pharr Beautiful meeting on April 15, emphasizing the importance of public input for the city's updated comprehensive plan. This plan will serve as a roadmap for the next decade, addressing future developments, business opportunities, housing options, and infrastructure improvements.

The open house will take place at Pepe Salinas Event Center from 5 PM to 7 PM, featuring activities for families, food, and opportunities to win prizes, including essential hurricane preparedness items. Garza encouraged all community members, regardless of age, to attend and share their thoughts, stating, "This plan is not for us; it’s for you guys, for the citizens of the community."

In addition to the open house announcement, the meeting included updates on ongoing projects. The annual "Trash Off" event, part of the "Don't Mess with Texas" initiative, has been rescheduled to May 3 due to recent rain. Volunteers are needed to help clean a two-mile stretch of Cage Boulevard, with the meeting point set for City Hall at 9 AM.

The meeting also addressed the status of the Keep Texas Beautiful Governor's Community Achievement Award, which will be discussed further in May pending feedback from state officials. The board expressed a commitment to keeping the community informed and engaged in these initiatives, reinforcing the importance of citizen involvement in local governance.
