Molokai community secures $1.7M funding for health and arts programs

Since its inception in 2022, the program has provided essential services and activities for seniors, helping them combat isolation and health issues exacerbated by the pandemic. Kuale detailed the extensive range of services offered, from medical consultations to creative classes, emphasizing the program's role in enhancing the quality of life for over a thousand seniors, including the oldest participant at 98 years old.

Alice Kahanui, executive director of the Molokai Arts Center, also spoke passionately about the importance of continued funding for arts programs. She highlighted the center's growth over 15 years and its role in supporting local artists and cultural education. Kahanui urged the council to maintain financial support for the arts, especially in light of potential cuts to federal and state funding, which could jeopardize vital community programs.
