Amador High School celebrates staff excellence with challenge coin awards

The Amador County Unified School District (ACUSD) School Board meeting held on April 16, 2025, highlighted significant achievements and ongoing challenges within the district. The meeting began with a pledge of allegiance, followed by a presentation recognizing outstanding staff members from Amador High School.

Principal Cagle introduced the recipients of the ACUSD challenge coins, honoring individuals who exemplify the values of the school community. Nancy and Gabby, custodial staff, were recognized for their essential behind-the-scenes work in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment. Jeremiah Cloud, a dedicated teacher, was acknowledged for his commitment to students and his willingness to take on additional responsibilities. Stephanie Bremer, a department head in special education, was commended for her unwavering support of both students and staff. Lastly, Claire Condon, the art teacher, was celebrated for revitalizing the art program and inspiring creativity among students.

Following the recognition segment, the meeting shifted to discussions about the challenges facing educators. Miss Jensen from the Amador County Teachers Association (ACTA) addressed the board, emphasizing the increasing demands placed on teachers. She highlighted issues such as emotional strain from student trauma, inadequate classroom support, and the need for competitive compensation to retain quality educators. Jensen pointed out that many teachers are leaving the district for better opportunities elsewhere, which poses a significant concern for the future of education in Amador County.

The meeting concluded with a call for the board to prioritize support for classroom needs, including hiring additional staff to alleviate pressures on teachers and improve the learning environment for students. The discussions underscored the importance of addressing both recognition of staff contributions and the systemic challenges that impact teacher retention and student success.
