Ozark Schools is set to enhance student learning and career readiness through a new program approved during the Board of Education meeting on December 19, 2024. The initiative will allow students to engage in hands-on learning experiences by assisting teachers in the classroom, going beyond traditional student roles.
The program, which will be implemented under the guidance of Mrs. Hilton and her class, will provide students with two blocks out of their eight-block schedule dedicated to collaborative work with teachers. This approach aims to develop essential competencies and skills that students can carry into their future careers. The Board expressed a desire to expand the program to include apprenticeships in maintenance, custodial work, and other areas within the school district.
The Board unanimously approved the job description and agreement with the Department of Labor, marking a significant step in the district's commitment to fostering practical skills among students. Currently, Ozark Schools is one of the few districts in the area offering such a program, joining Marshfield and Bolivar in this educational initiative.
This program not only aims to enhance the educational experience for students but also prepares them for future employment opportunities, reinforcing the district's focus on practical learning and community engagement. As the program rolls out, it is expected to evolve and expand, providing even more avenues for student development in the coming years.
