Douglas County proclaims National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week for April 2025

The Board of Douglas County Commissioners convened on April 16, 2025, to address several important proclamations and community initiatives. The meeting began with a proclamation recognizing April 13-19, 2025, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week honors the vital role of public safety dispatchers in emergency response, highlighting their contributions to law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical services.

Tony Foster, a representative from the Douglas County Emergency Communications Center, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the critical nature of dispatchers in emergency situations. He noted that dispatchers are often the first point of contact for citizens in distress, providing essential information and support during crises. Foster also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of his team, who answered approximately 30,000 emergency calls and over 100,000 non-emergency calls in the past year.

Following this, the commissioners proclaimed April 2025 as National County Government Month. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the essential services provided by counties across the nation. The proclamation encourages community participation in Douglas County Discovery Day, scheduled for April 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Carrie Britt, the media and communications coordinator, shared details about the event, which will showcase various county departments and their services, fostering community engagement.
