Waynesboro proclaims April 2025 as Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week

The Waynesboro City Council meeting on April 14, 2025, highlighted significant proclamations honoring local service professionals, including animal control officers and public safety telecommunicators.

During the meeting, the council presented a proclamation recognizing the week of April 13-19, 2025, as National Animal Control Officers Week. Chief Shaw and Animal Control Officer Jennifer Anderson were present to accept the proclamation, which acknowledged the vital role of animal control officers in ensuring public safety and animal welfare. Mayor Kenny Lee emphasized the dedication of these officers, who respond to over 1,300 service calls annually, dealing with complex issues such as animal cruelty and dangerous situations. Officer Anderson expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the importance of their work in advocating for animals and protecting the community.

Additionally, the council proclaimed the same week as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, honoring the staff of the Waynesboro Department of Emergency Management and Emergency Communication Center. This proclamation recognized the critical role of telecommunicators in managing emergency calls and dispatching services. Vice Mayor Lori Jean Okombe noted the significant contributions of these professionals, who handled over 38,000 dispatched incidents in the past year.
