Parks and Recreation updates loan policy for art pieces in Orinda

During the recent Orinda City Council meeting on April 15, 2025, significant discussions centered around updates to the city’s parks and recreation policies, particularly regarding loan agreements for community projects. Parks and Recreation Director Todd Trimble highlighted the success of the Orinda Parks and Recreation Program Committee (APPC), which has been active for nearly two decades, attributing its achievements to the dedication of staff and community members.

One of the key proposals discussed was the extension of loan terms for community projects. The council noted that it has been seven years since the last update to these policies, and the proposed changes aim to make the process more manageable for staff while supporting ongoing community initiatives. Currently, there are approximately 50 pieces on loan that require amendments to their agreements.

Additionally, the council considered raising the cap on loan values to account for inflation and changing circumstances. This adjustment is seen as necessary since the last increase was made seven years ago. The discussion also included the transition of funding responsibilities from the Orinda Parks and Recreation Foundation to the Community Foundation, ensuring that financial support for community projects remains stable.
