Atlanta unveils first urban farm at Rez Farm Preserve in Armwood Park

On April 16, 2025, the city of Atlanta celebrated a significant milestone with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Red's Farm Preserve, the first urban farm in the Armwood Park community. Council member Jason Winston emphasized the importance of creating green spaces within urban settings, highlighting how this 5.3-acre farm will serve as a vital resource for local residents.

Red's Farm Preserve is designed to be accessible, situated within walking distance of neighborhoods and schools. It features in-ground rows, raised planting beds, and a small orchard of persimmon and serviceberry trees, developed in partnership with Tree Atlanta. The Urban Farm Hornwood Group will manage the farm, providing hands-on programming that encourages community engagement and fosters a connection to nature through gardening.

Winston reflected on the collaborative effort that brought the farm to fruition, noting the contributions of government, residents, nonprofit organizations, and private partners. He expressed a deep personal connection to the land, honoring the legacy of his brother, who had preserved the property for over three decades for community use.
