Brentwood Fire District honored for Measure X and prepares for Girls Empowerment Camp

The Contra Costa Fire Protection District celebrated a significant achievement at their recent meeting, receiving recognition from the National Fire Protection Association for their Measure X and fuel mitigation projects. Chief Bachman and Chief Brochard represented the district at the awards ceremony in Kansas City last month, where they earned an honorable mention for their efforts in enhancing fire safety.

Looking ahead, the district is preparing for a planning commission hearing regarding Station 94 in Downtown Brentwood, with hopes to secure a date in May. Additionally, the Rodeo Hercules annexation is on track for a July 1 effective date, with all necessary documentation received from the state board of equalization. An invitation to the upcoming ceremony will be sent out soon.

In community engagement, the district is excited to host a girls' empowerment camp, aimed at inspiring young people to consider firefighting as a career. This initiative will be supported by many of the district's female firefighters, showcasing the diverse opportunities within the profession.

The meeting also highlighted the upcoming Wildfire Preparedness Days on May 3, set to take place at the fire training center. This event aims to educate the public on wildfire safety and preparedness.

In recognition of National Public Safety Communicators Week, the board acknowledged the vital role of dispatchers, who work tirelessly around the clock. Their ability to provide life-saving instructions during emergencies, such as childbirth and CPR, was emphasized as crucial to public safety.

As the meeting concluded, discussions about improving communication strategies were noted, particularly following a recent meeting between Chief Burchard and Dr. Ziele. This ongoing effort aims to enhance the district's responsiveness in emergency situations.
