Franklin Special School District students showcased their innovative spirit at the recent Tennessee Invention Convention, where they made a remarkable impact on judges and secured spots at the National Invention Convention. This annual event, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University for over 25 years, celebrates young inventors and promotes invention education across the state.

Four projects from Franklin students were selected to represent Tennessee at the national level in June at the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan. Among the standout inventions was an adjustable ankle weight designed by a team from Poplar Grove Bridal, aimed at helping athletes improve their swing technique while maintaining proper foot movement.

Additionally, students from Freedom Intermediate School participated in the competition, with three teams earning the opportunity to present their inventions at nationals. One of these teams created the "Celia seat," a portable seating solution for individuals with limited mobility, which emphasizes inclusion and empathy. Their project not only secured a trip to nationals but also won the award for best presentation in the "makes life easier" category.

Other notable inventions included the "Pebble Pushers," designed to enhance lawn care safety by preventing rocks from being kicked up by lawnmowers, and a textured laser-engraved pencil aimed at helping individuals manage anxiety, which received top honors in the health and medical category.

The excitement continues as these young innovators prepare for the first annual inventor showcase on April 30, where they will present their projects to the community. This event, taking place at the Performing Arts Center, promises an evening of inspiration, allowing students to pitch their products and share their stories. Tickets are available for $5, supporting the students' fundraising efforts for their national competition.

The achievements of these students not only highlight their creativity and problem-solving skills but also reflect the district's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among its youth.
