School Board honors retirees Jill Gaylot and Richard Reagan at community banquet

The St. Bernard Parish School Board convened for its General Committee Meeting on April 5, 2025, to discuss various agenda items, including personnel changes and financial matters.

The meeting began with a brief update on swim registration, which has been sent out to families. Board members encouraged interested families to visit the school district's website for more information.

The first major agenda item addressed was personnel changes for April 2025, presented by Miss Harris. She highlighted the retirement of two long-serving employees: Jill Gayla from Gauthier Elementary and Richard Reagan Jr. from the transportation department. Board members expressed gratitude for their years of service, with Miss Dysart noting Gayla's family legacy in education and Reagan's nickname, "Cajun Cowboy." Both retirees were acknowledged for their contributions to the school system, and a commitment to honor them at the upcoming Commitment to Community banquet was mentioned.

Following the personnel updates, the board reviewed a letter of assurance intended for substitute teachers, confirming the district's intention to employ them for the next school year. Miss Albers presented the letter for approval, and after a motion by Miss Donsart and a second by Miss White, the board unanimously approved the mailing of the letters.

The meeting then transitioned to financial discussions, with Miss Kriesen set to present the next agenda item. Overall, the meeting underscored the board's commitment to recognizing dedicated staff while ensuring continuity in substitute teaching for the upcoming year.
