Henderson County Board celebrates student achievements at April meeting

The Henderson County Board of Public Education convened on April 14, 2025, to celebrate notable achievements among students and staff from various schools. The meeting began with a moment of reflection and proceeded to the approval of the agenda, which was unanimously accepted by board members.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of outstanding performances by students and staff. Flat Rock Middle School's orchestra, led by Ms. Jenny Quinn, received accolades for achieving a superior rating at the Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) held on March 4. This recognition underscores the dedication and talent of both the students and their instructor.

Hendersonville High School's mock trial team was also celebrated for their impressive performance at the state level. The team, which dedicated numerous hours to practice, brought home two individual awards from the state competition, having previously swept all six individual awards at the regional level. This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of the students involved.

North Henderson High School was recognized for several accomplishments, including student James Mondon, who earned a second-place finish at the state DECA competition, qualifying him for the national competition in Orlando. Additionally, Sitlolly Diazmar was honored as the North Carolina 2025 Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year, showcasing her leadership and community involvement.

The meeting concluded with a tribute to the school counselors at North Henderson High School, who were acknowledged for their vital role in supporting students' academic and personal growth. The school was also recognized as one of only 26 schools nationwide to receive the National School of Excellence designation from ACT's American College Application Campaign, highlighting their commitment to preparing students for life after graduation.
