Fourth graders from Bell Creek Elementary School took center stage at the Bellbrook City Council meeting on April 14, 2025, showcasing their understanding of local government through an engaging presentation. Under the guidance of teacher Renee Maine, the students shared insights from their recent studies, including the Constitution and the importance of civic engagement.

Mila George, one of the students, highlighted key concepts such as the freedoms of speech, press, and assembly, as well as the three branches of government. The students also participated in a creative project where they were tasked with designing a park using a hypothetical budget of $750,000. This exercise encouraged them to consider the needs of all community members and to work collaboratively to make decisions.

AJ Campbell presented his group's park, named the Eagle's Nest Center, which features amenities like recycling bins, picnic tables, sports fields, and a dog park. He emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating that the park is designed for all ages. Athena Brown followed with her group's design for the Bellbrook Fun Park, which includes a playground, splash pads, and a butterfly garden, along with rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.

The students' presentations not only demonstrated their grasp of governmental principles but also showcased their creativity and teamwork. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to fostering civic education among its youth, preparing them to be informed and engaged citizens in the future.
