Fulshear's Economic Development Corporation is poised to enhance its downtown area by proposing a significant change to its alcohol consumption regulations. During a recent meeting, officials discussed an ordinance aimed at removing existing distance requirements between establishments serving alcohol and sensitive locations such as schools, churches, and daycares. Currently, the regulations mandate a separation of either 300 or 1,000 feet, which has been identified as a barrier to the development of vibrant businesses like wine bars and breweries in the downtown district.

The Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended that the city council approve a new approach that eliminates these distance restrictions. Instead, the proposal would require applicants to notify nearby public and private schools, daycares, and places of public assembly within 500 feet of any new alcohol-serving business.
