The Denton Historic Landmark Commission is gearing up for an exciting month filled with community events aimed at promoting historic preservation and engaging residents. Among the highlights is the inaugural Denton Vintage Short Film Festival, set to take place on April 30, hosted in collaboration with the University of North Texas. This event promises to be a unique cultural experience for residents and visitors alike.

Another significant event is the "Preserving Southbridge" open house, which will educate attendees about the importance of historic preservation. Scheduled for April 30 at the San Houston Elementary cafeteria, the event will allow residents to participate in oral history interviews and contribute artifacts, blueprints, and documents to enhance Denton's historical archives. Community members, especially those living in the South Ridge area, are encouraged to attend and share their stories.

Additionally, the commission will kick off Denton Revealed Preservation Month with ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new landmark designations. These ceremonies will occur at two locations on April 30, starting at 9:30 AM at 1526 Willowwood and continuing at 10:20 AM at 1900 West Ridge Street. The events will feature speeches, plaque unveilings, and photo opportunities, celebrating the city's commitment to preserving its historical character.

The commission is also collaborating with the Xenia neighborhood, which is exploring the possibility of becoming a designated historic district.
