Centra Digital Interconnect expands Reno data center with $58M investment and job creation

The Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) held a board meeting on February 6, 2025, where significant discussions centered around two major projects aimed at enhancing the state's economic landscape.

The first project presented was by Centra Digital Interconnect, a data center company looking to expand its operations in Reno. Centra plans to invest over $58 million in a new facility located just west of downtown Reno, on a site that has remained undeveloped for over a decade. The expansion aims to support local businesses, educational institutions, and telecommunications companies by providing improved internet connectivity and data services. Centra has already received a conditional use permit for its operations and is seeking sales and use tax abatements, as well as personal property tax abatements, qualifying under all three criteria for such incentives. The project is expected to create 11 highly skilled jobs with an average wage of $35.72 per hour within the first two years. Centra is also committed to sustainability, planning to use renewable energy sources and environmentally friendly materials in its construction.

The second project discussed was by Create, a manufacturing company specializing in plastic products, which is requesting tax abatements to support its establishment in North Las Vegas. Create plans to invest $11.5 million and create approximately 31 jobs within the first two years, with potential growth to 60 jobs over five years. The company emphasizes its commitment to sustainability, using recycled materials in its products and implementing energy-efficient manufacturing processes. Create's operations are designed to serve major clients like Home Depot, and the company aims to hire locally, contributing to the community's economic development.

Both projects received support from the board, highlighting the state's focus on fostering economic growth through strategic investments in technology and manufacturing. The board approved the tax abatements for Centra Digital Interconnect, paving the way for its expansion and the anticipated benefits to the local economy. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration between businesses and government entities in driving Nevada's economic future.
