The GCCS Board of School Trustees meeting on April 8, 2025, highlighted significant personnel changes and generous community donations aimed at enhancing educational programs.

During the meeting, the board welcomed Christy Charnot as the new director of special education. Charnot, who has 26 years of experience at Bowling Point High School, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and excitement for her new role. Additionally, Shane was introduced as the new supervisor in charge of the pre-K program, with Sydney Silo transitioning to the assistant president of GEDRA. Both appointments were met with enthusiasm from the board, emphasizing the competitive selection process that brought in these qualified candidates.

The meeting also showcased substantial donations from local organizations. The Robertland Company contributed land valued at $30,000 for the Charles Towne Dollar Tree. The Community Foundation of Southern Indiana donated eight charging stations and two charging cards, while the Greater NC Healthcare Foundation provided $5,000 for injury recovery equipment. Furthermore, the Classic Archery Club donated $1,000 to Charleston Middle School, and the Charleston Elementary PTO contributed $2,651 for a new laminator for New Washington Elementary.

The board expressed appreciation for these contributions, which are expected to significantly benefit the schools and their programs. The meeting concluded with a motion to approve the donations, which passed unanimously, reflecting the board's commitment to fostering a supportive educational environment.
