Bristol City Council approves $1.5M for new skate park led by SCAPE Bristol

The City of Bristol, Tennessee, held a meeting on April 12, 2025, to discuss the development of a new skate park, a project that has garnered significant community support and involvement. Link's group has been actively fundraising and organizing for the new park, successfully raising approximately $10,000 through local business support and community events over the past two and a half years.

The city has committed $1.5 million to the project, with Pillar Design Studios selected to lead the design process. This firm is recognized for its experience in creating parks that reflect local culture and geography, which Link and city officials believe will enhance the park's appeal and usability. The design phase will involve community input to ensure the facility meets the needs of local skaters and is situated in an accessible location.

In addition to the skate park, SCAPE Bristol has been involved in philanthropic efforts, including providing helmets to children in need, ensuring that safety equipment is accessible to all young skaters. The group has partnered with local organizations to distribute over 100 helmets in the past two years.

As skateboarding gains recognition as a competitive sport, particularly with its inclusion in the Olympics, the new skate park is seen as a vital resource for nurturing local talent. City officials and community leaders expressed optimism about the project's potential to inspire the next generation of skaters and foster a vibrant skateboarding culture in Bristol.
