Highland Village is set to enhance its green spaces with two upcoming community-driven initiatives aimed at beautifying local parks. The Friends of Highland Village Parks Foundation will lead a tree planting project on November 9, 2024, at Unity Park Trail, where volunteers will help plant 13 new trees along Briar Hill Boulevard. This initiative is part of a broader reforestation effort to replace trees lost during past storms and improve the area's aesthetics and environmental health.
The event, scheduled from 10 AM to 2 PM, invites residents to participate in the planting process, guided by arborists who will provide instructions on proper planting techniques. The foundation aims to foster community involvement while enhancing the natural landscape, with plans for refreshments to make the day enjoyable for volunteers.
In addition to the tree planting, a wildflower seeding volunteer program will take place on November 2, 2024. This initiative will focus on expanding wildflower areas in several parks, including Copperas Branch Park, Victoria Park, and Marauder Park. Volunteers will assist in spreading native wildflower seeds, contributing to the city’s efforts to create vibrant, sustainable green spaces that require less maintenance over time.
Both projects highlight the city’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. Residents are encouraged to sign up for these volunteer opportunities, which not only beautify Highland Village but also foster a sense of ownership and pride among community members. As these initiatives unfold, they promise to enhance the natural beauty of the area and provide lasting benefits for residents and wildlife alike.
