La Jolla ISD appoints Rosa Gonzalez Vela and Eliamar Lopez as new elementary principals

La Joya Independent School District (LJISD) has announced the appointment of two new principals for its Accelerated Campus Excellence (ACE) program, a move aimed at enhancing educational leadership and student success within the district. During the board meeting on April 9, 2025, Superintendent Dr. Sorensen introduced Rosa Gonzalez Vela as the new principal of Evangelina Garza Elementary and Eliamar Lopez as the principal of Seguin Elementary.

Rosa Gonzalez Vela brings 25 years of experience in education, having previously served as principal at Emiliano Zapata Elementary and Lloyd Fenton Elementary. She expressed her commitment to fostering an environment that promotes leadership and academic achievement, emphasizing the importance of making decisions that benefit all students.

Eliamar Lopez, with 24 years in public education, has held various roles including assistant principal and instructional supervisor. She played a significant role in earning the National Blue Ribbon designation for Alodia Archapa Elementary in 2019. Lopez highlighted her dedication to creating a safe and inclusive school culture, where every child can thrive.

Both principals expressed excitement about their new roles and the opportunity to work closely with students, families, and staff to drive academic growth and community engagement. Their appointments are expected to strengthen the district's focus on educational excellence and student success as they lead their respective campuses into the upcoming school year.
